On August 3, 2022, everything changed for Benny Yount. He experienced a miraculous healing.
When people hear the name Benny Yount, they often think of racing, business success, and the legendary Hickory Motor Speedway. But Benny would tell you his life is really about something much greater.
“I’m just a simple guy from Hickory, North Carolina, who has been blessed more than I could have ever dreamed or imagined,” he says. “God uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.”
In 1986, Benny was given the opportunity to purchase Hickory Motor Speedway, one of NASCAR’s most historic short tracks. Known as “The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars,” the track has hosted generations of racing legends, including members of the Earnhardt and Jarrett families. What began as a real estate investment quickly became something much more.
Shortly after purchasing the speedway, the promoter who leased the facility announced he was leaving. Suddenly, Benny found himself responsible for operating and promoting one of the most famous tracks in racing.
There was only one problem: he had never raced.
Wanting to better understand the competitors he served, Benny decided to get behind the wheel himself. What happened next became one of his favorite lessons about faith.
As he lined up for his first race and waited for the green flag, his left leg began to shake uncontrollably with adrenaline and nerves. He wasn’t sure he could even work the clutch. Until that moment, he had never really understood what racers experienced.
That experience reminded him of something far more significant and intensely personal.
“In a way, that’s what Jesus did,” Benny says. “He became one of us so He could live and experience all the things we are challenged with every day.”
Before coming to Christ, Benny describes his life as being filled with doubt, fear, worry, and insecurity. Success, possessions, and accomplishments never provided the peace he was searching for.
“I got to the point where there was no peace and no joy,” he recalls. “Everything I thought would bring those things came up empty.”
That realization guided him to a relationship with Jesus Christ, a decision that transformed every area of his life.
Today, Benny openly shares that his confidence isn’t found in business success, racing achievements, or personal accomplishments. It’s found in the forgiveness, grace, and hope he has through Christ.
“I still have failures at times,” he says, “but I know I’ve been forgiven, and I can go straight to the Throne Room of God and find mercy, grace, and help in time of need.”
That faith would be tested in an extraordinary way.
In 2020, Benny began experiencing severe back problems that eventually led to major spinal surgery. What followed were nearly two years of unrelenting pain, physical limitations, emotional struggles, and moments of deep despair. Once active and independent, he found himself temporarily confined to a wheelchair, unable to enjoy the life he once knew. Despite consulting specialists and pursuing every available treatment, nothing seemed to help.
Then, on August 3, 2022, everything changed.
While watching a Christian broadcast about the healing power of God, Benny responded to a simple challenge to take a step of faith. Standing and raising his hands in prayer, he cried out to God for mercy.
What happened next, he describes as nothing short of miraculous.
“Thank You, God. Thank You, Jesus. I’m healed,” he remembers saying through tears. “And I knew it.”
That moment not only restored his hope but also strengthened his mission. Today, Benny uses every platform God has given him, whether at a speedway, an automobile dealership, on a golf course, or through ministry partnerships, to share the Gospel. He and his family actively support numerous ministries, including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, helping reach young people through sports.
For Benny, sports and business have always been about teamwork. The same principle applies to faith.
“In the Body of Christ, that’s our team,” he says. “We’re there for each other. We have each other’s back.”
His message to others is simple: don’t wait.
“Just do it today,” Benny says. “You have everything to gain.”
Through victories, setbacks, healing, and faith, Benny Yount’s story reminds us that success may open doors, but it is a relationship with Jesus Christ that ultimately changes lives.
