After receiving all-state honors in football and baseball at Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, NJ, Harry signed with College of the Holy Cross on a four-year football scholarship.
Harry started all four years at middle linebacker and was named Associated Press All-American his junior and senior years. Flaherty served as captain in his senior year, leading the Crusaders to the Lamber Cup Championship, placing number one in the East. He held the all-time record at Holy Cross for 447 career tackles. In 1995, he was inducted into the Holy Cross Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1997, he was inducted into the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame. In 2015, he was inducted into the Crusader Football Legends Ring of Honor.
Harry was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1984. He also played in the USFL for the Tampa Bay Bandits and the Baltimore Stars.
Flaherty was born to loving parents and is one of ten children. He never doubted the existence of God and regularly attended church. However, his love for sports superseded his love for God.
While playing professional football in Tampa, he came to understand what a personal relationship with Jesus Christ meant. Here, he has found purpose, meaning, and direction for his life.
John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Heavenly Father,
I come to you in need of a Savior.
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
Today, I make Jesus the Lord of my life.
I believe He died so I could be forgiven and rose again to give me life.
I receive this new life. This is my new beginning. I am a child of God.
